brand new yoga classes
you'll notice that 2017 sees the launch of brand new yoga classes. our main class being on a wednesday at the Hemingford pavilion at 7.45pm. It's hard to express all the benefits of yoga, or the exact content of a class in a mere snippet of a "class description" so i wanted to write a few words on here about this particular class. Firstly i would say that there are hundreds of different styles of yoga and different teachers, so if you look for "a yoga class" you will more than likely find something slightly different every time. This can be both brilliant (in as much as there's something for everyone) but it can also be a minefield when trying to find a class that feels right for you. At the moment i can only speak for my class on a Wednesday. I'm trying to operate a slightly laid back attitude by opening the class to "drop-ins", meaning you can just pop in and try it or you can just come when you can. Many yoga classes are run as courses and I understand the difficulty, as an adult, in committing to a regular activity. However, from my own experience, i also recognise the benefits of attending yoga regularly to really get the most out of it. My first ten weeks are themed, and although it's fine to pick up wherever, or miss a week (nothing will happen if you do) it's a complete and progressive package. so our themes have some kind of relevance and our poses show some kind of progression. It does still remain a beginners class whenever you join, even if you join in week ten. so what could you expect physically from my yoga class? some relaxation, meditation, focus, asanas or poses, simple sequences, breathing and mantras. so you may start by mobilising the body gently and bringing yourself into the present moment, then you'd slowly work through a warm up, the main poses (both standing and on the mat), some total body relaxation and pranayama or breathing and energy work. I feel the physical description doesn't quite give a yoga class the justice that it deserves, but i'm also well aware that everyone's experience of the same yoga class, may be very different, so i'd like to leave a little bit open to interpretation. scientifically yoga has many benefits and it may be good to research this yourself, but a few that i feel justified in promoting are flexibility, strength, co-ordination, balance, confidence, calm, improved sleep quality, improved mood, improved digestion, improved cardio vascular function, quietening the mind, inner peace and it's now more sociable than ever! I have definitely found a new passion and i love sharing my passion. i love the idea that people who may never have contemplated yoga could just at least pop in and give it a go. after all, you can't knock something unless you've tried it! I also understand that it's not everybody cup of organic herbal tea and that is fine too. Always promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate! I'm hoping over the course of the year to get more yoga classes up and running so i can keep spreading the yogic love. i'm also looking to improve my own practice, so if anyone knows of any great classes or yoga events, don't forget to give me a shout. you can keep an eye on my new social media page Nicola Guitart instructor, where i will post all things yoga, pilates, fitness and dance and try to keep you updated with information, class times, interesting facts, motivation and love. I hope this answers some the questions about yoga and unveils any mystery surrounding it. You don't have to be a bare foot hippy to enjoy regular practice, you just have to give it a go with an open mind and an open heart. I hope to see you soon in one of my classes, but i'm also open to high fives and hugs if you see me out and about too! love and light to you all, Nic. xxxSingle Event Page
